The Scent Notebook
Introducing The Scent Notebook
From time to time, readers write to me with wonderfully practical questions about fragrance. Questions like: How do you travel with perfume? What should you wear on an airplane? How many sprays is too many? I love these questions because they remind me that fragrance is not just something we think about—it’s something we live with every day.
While my main essays explore the deeper relationship between scent, identity, and intentional living, I’ve decided to start sharing occasional shorter posts called The Scent Notebook. These entries will be brief reflections on the practical side of fragrance—small observations, simple tips, and answers to the questions many of you have been asking. Think of them as the margins of the book: quick notes from my daily life with perfume.
A Life in Fragrance will always remain focused on the larger ideas behind why we wear scent. But sometimes the small details—how we travel with perfume, how we choose what to wear for a moment or a place—are part of that life too. And those small details deserve a place in the notebook.
Scent Notebook: Airport Fragrance
Reader Question
“What fragrances do you wear at the airport?”
Airports are crowded and often chaotic, so I usually reach for fragrances that feel clean, uplifting, and close to the skin. Travel days can be long, and I prefer scents that feel comfortable, fresh, and airy rather than overpowering.
My suggestions:
Creed Aventus for Her
Chloé Eau de Parfum
Kayali Musk 12
Clean Reserve Skin
FORVR MOOD You Remind Me
And because there is always a vanilla for every situation:
Burberry Goddess
Maison Louis Marie No.15 Vanille Infinie
Tip
Two sprays on skin and one light spray on clothing are usually plenty for air travel. If you think you’ll want to refresh later, bring a small decant or travel spray in your carry-on.
What fragrance do you like to wear when you travel?

If I had an airport scent I would focus on freshness and longevity. I would instantly gravitate towards Versace Eros, or possibly Prada Paradigm.
I love all of these suggestions! I would probably wear my Kayali Vanilla Rock Candy Sugar!!
